Rahmat Erwin Wins Asian Games Gold in Men's 75kg Weightlifting

Indonesia's Rahmat Erwin Abdullah clinched the men's 75kg weightlifting gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The event took place at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Japan on Saturday, September 27. Rahmat lifted a total of 366 kilograms, which included a 160-kilogram snatch and a 206-kilogram clean and jerk.

His performance was closely matched against Thailand's Weeraphon Wichuma, who secured the silver medal with a total of 365 kilograms. This included 160 kilograms in the snatch and 205 kilograms in the clean and jerk. North Korea's Ri Chong Song claimed the bronze with a total of 357 kilograms, consisting of 162 kilograms in the snatch and 195 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Rahmat began the competition strong in the snatch, successfully lifting 160 kilograms on his third attempt. In the subsequent clean and jerk, Ri Chong Song made the competition more tense by lifting 162 kilograms, his best attempt in the snatch.

Rahmat managed to outperform Ri Chong Song by successfully lifting 201 kilograms in the clean and jerk. However, Ri Chong Song failed to lift 202 kilograms on his next two attempts, which left Rahmat with a 361-kilogram total after the opening attempts.

Weeraphon Wichuma competed on his final attempt, successfully lifting 205 kilograms to take the provisional lead with a total of 365 kilograms. Rahmat then lifted 206 kilograms in his second attempt, reaching a final total of 366 kilograms and securing the gold medal for Indonesia. Rahmat finished one kilogram ahead of Wichuma, who took the silver medal.
