Qatar urges rapid, sustained aid delivery to Gaza

New York: Qatar, alongside Jordan and the United Kingdom, convened a "Call to Action" summit on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza during the UN General Assembly's 81st session, said a news report. H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khulaifi, Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, addressed the gathering.

Dr. Al-Khulaifi underscored Qatar's deep concern for the Palestinian populace's plight, stating this principle has fueled Qatar's diplomatic endeavors to broker a Gaza truce and push forward the 20-point plan, proposed by former US President Donald Trump and approved by the UN Security Council.

Qatar's diplomatic efforts have been backed by substantial humanitarian actions, including the delivery of food, essential goods, and shelters to roughly 436,000 individuals, and the reactivation of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics. The nation has also provided Gaza with 30 million liters of fuel over three years and recently inked an agreement with the UN to supply an additional 1.3 million liters to bolster medical institutions and services.

Dr. Al-Khulaifi stressed the urgency of ensuring swift, enduring, and unhindered humanitarian aid, enabling aid agencies to operate securely and safeguarding medical personnel, facilities, and transportation. As winter looms, he highlighted the critical need to furnish shelter, clean water, and sanitation. He reiterated Qatar's dedication to collaborating with partners and the Board of Peace to tackle immediate humanitarian needs and support recovery and reconstruction, aiming for a just and enduring peace. He also thanked Qatar for its contributions to the "Call to Action."
