Oregon football news: Dan Lanning makes targeting feelings clear on Dante Moore hit

Oregon football coach Dan Lanning expressed his disapproval over the targeting penalty assessed against USC linebacker Desman Stephens II for his hit on wide receiver Dante Moore during Saturday's game against the No. 12 Trojans. Moore was involved in a play where he attempted to slide during a second-quarter drive before being tackled hard by Stephens, resulting in him slamming his head into the ground.

The incident led to Moore going down, triggering a chaotic brawl between both teams that required coaches to intervene. Following the review, Stephens was disqualified from the rest of the game due to the targeting infraction, and both teams received unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Following the game, Lanning addressed the unfortunate occurrence on his Twitter feed, emphasizing his support for the targeting rules that led to Stephens being ejected. He lamented the fact that such an incident could have been avoided, acknowledging the importance of the targeting rule in football. Despite Moore's absence from the game, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola, who completed 19 out of 25 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, helped the Ducks secure a 41-27 victory over USC.

Running backs Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr. contributed significantly with 31 carries for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Receivers Jamari Johnson and Dierre Hill Jr. totaled 11 receptions for 224 yards, while Evan Stewart and Dakorien Moore finished as the touchdown scorers, helped by Raiola's strong performances. The Ducks will look forward to hosting UCLA at home next week, resuming action in Week 6 against the Bruins on October 10.
