Op Luxury to continue, cars worth RM550mil seized since June 2025, says JPJ

The road transport department (JPJ) in Malaysia has announced that it will continue its enforcement efforts targeting luxury vehicles for various infractions, following a successful crackdown over the past 16 months. Kifli Ma Hassan, a senior director of enforcement at JPJ, disclosed that a total of 3,790 luxury vehicles, valued at approximately RM550 million, have been seized under the Op Luxury initiative since June 2025.

During the reporting period, spanning from June to December 2025, 785 vehicles were seized, while another 3,005 were taken between January and September 26 of this year. Among the seized vehicles, the state of Negeri Sembilan recorded the highest number of seizures, with 469 vehicles, followed by Selangor (410), Kuala Lumpur (382), Johor (367), and Penang (357).

Kifli observed that some luxury vehicle owners were hesitant to visit JPJ offices to renew their road tax due to blacklisting from previous offenses. Notably, lower-income groups can easily renew their road tax, while luxury vehicle owners from the T20 group often cite various reasons for non-compliance, leading to vehicle seizures.

According to Kifli, around 20% of luxury vehicle owners were reportedly cosmetic entrepreneurs, influencers, and businesspeople. JPJ intends to persist with the Op Luxury campaign to ensure that all road users adhere to legal requirements, regardless of vehicle price or owner status. Kifli emphasized that owning a luxury vehicle comes with the responsibility to maintain valid vehicle and driving documents and ensure that the vehicle meets all requirements before being operated on the road.
