Nigeria woos 14 German firms for industrial investments

The Federal Government of Nigeria is actively pursuing industrial investments from Germany, with 14 German companies exploring opportunities in sectors such as cement, mining, construction, and industrial technology. This push follows a conference, "Business Meets Nigeria," which took place in Abuja, and was part of a high-level mission by German companies to engage with Nigerian businesses and stakeholders.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, emphasized Nigeria's commitment to enhancing economic and industrial cooperation with Germany. He highlighted the government's aim of fostering partnerships that could bolster the country's productive capacity and competitiveness, with the potential to help Nigeria achieve a $1tn economy by 2030.

Bagudu pointed out that achieving this goal necessitates private-sector participation, increased domestic value addition, and substantial investments in key sectors. He also stressed the importance of financing, including bankable and investment-ready projects, alongside mechanisms like export credit, development finance, and commercial lending.

The conference, organized by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the German Embassy in Nigeria, aimed to identify opportunities for investment, technology transfer, and industrial collaboration. Dr Chux Onaa, Head of the VDMA delegation, noted that German machinery and equipment manufacturers could contribute to Nigeria's industrial development through their expertise in various fields, including materials handling, cement and minerals processing, digitalization, and environmental technologies.
