NAMLC discusses enhancing cooperation with Syria's CASI

Doha, Qatar - The National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee (NAMLC) convened a meeting with Syria's Central Authority for Supervision and Inspection (CASI) to explore avenues for bolstering international cooperation and capacity building in the fight against financial crimes.

During the dialogue, NAMLC Secretary Mohammed Sareea Rashid Al Kaabi engaged in discussions with CASI Head Amer Al Ali, who was in the country at the time. The two parties delved into several key areas, including the need to enhance the framework for combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and corruption.

The meeting underscored the importance of clarifying roles and responsibilities among national entities, paving the way for a mutual evaluation process. Both sides emphasized the necessity of capacity building and ensuring that national personnel are well-qualified to bolster the readiness of relevant entities and the overall effectiveness of the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing system.

NAMLC's role in coordinating with national authorities to devise and implement policies and activities targeting money laundering linked to corruption was also a focal point. The dialogue emphasized the significance of these efforts in preventing and combating financial crimes, safeguarding the financial system, and promoting integrity and transparency.

In terms of international cooperation, the NAMLC and CASI highlighted the value of sharing expertise and leveraging international experience and best practices. They discussed opportunities for future collaboration in training and capacity building, aligning with NAMLC's strategic priorities and plans.

The meeting was part of NAMLC's broader efforts to strengthen international coordination and cooperation, particularly in supporting MENAFATF countries as they prepare for the mutual evaluation phase.
