Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran was still awaiting an official response from the US through intermediaries regarding its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. Despite previous attacks during negotiations, Iran remains open to diplomacy, Araghchi added. He reiterated Iran's readiness to reopen the strait if the US addressed their conditions, which include ending what Iran calls a "war of aggression," releasing Iranian assets frozen illegally, and allowing Tehran to sell its oil.

Araghchi questioned why Washington was unwilling to release Iranian funds before reopening the strait, emphasizing that the money rightfully belongs to Iran. He also criticized the US for attacking Iran during previous rounds of talks, citing specific incidents in 2025 and 2026. Despite US President Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's proposal, Tehran is still waiting for an official response through mediators, according to Araghchi.

Additionally, US UN Ambassador Mike Waltz claimed that President Trump doesn't believe Iran is negotiating in good faith, as Tehran is demanding immediate relief from sanctions, including those related to the US' Operation Economic Fury and UN snapback sanctions. US Ambassador Waltz expressed skepticism about Iran's intentions, noting breaches of the ceasefire agreement in June and their immediate violation of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) after signing it.
