Man Utd earn first win of the WSL season against West Ham

Manchester United secured their first victory of the 2026/27 WSL season with a 2-1 win against West Ham United. Goals from Elisabeth Terland and Andrea Medina propelled United to their maiden league triumph of the campaign. Eva Olid's side had faced a challenging opening to the season following a 10-1 defeat against Sheffield United midweek.

However, Manchester United's performance was largely comfortable, lasting for the majority of the match. The game kicked off with Anna Sandberg's corner finding Terland, who headed the ball in from close range, giving United the lead within the first 10 minutes. The initial 45 minutes saw an even contest, with West Ham's Kelly Gago and Viviane Asseyi showing their attacking prowess.

Helen Lundkvist had a near miss for West Ham just before halftime. In the second half, Manchester United became the dominant force, creating several chances before Medina sealed the win in the 72nd minute, scoring his first goal for the club. The game was extended by five minutes of stoppage time, which became tense for Olid's side after Asseyi was penalized for a challenge on Sandberg, allowing Phallon Tullis-Joyce to score from the resulting penalty, earning her third goal of the season.

Despite this late pressure, Manchester United held on to secure a 2-1 victory, providing some relief for Olid and her team.
