Man dead in North York stabbing; motorcyclist killed in crash

A severe nor'easter storm swept across the northeastern United States, causing widespread damage and disruption. Coastal flooding, power outages, travel disruptions, and cancelled events were reported in areas including New York City and Boston. The US National Weather Service described the storm as bringing dangerous coastal flooding, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.

States of emergency were declared in New York and New Jersey, both of which experienced a coastal deluge in some areas. In Brooklyn, a man was killed by a falling tree. Over 160,000 households were left without electricity, and more than 3,500 flights were affected. The full moon was expected to exacerbate coastal flooding. Floodwaters inundated streets and homes in coastal New Jersey communities.

New York officials warned residents of potential wind gusts up to 55mph, urging them not to travel unless necessary and to avoid walking or driving through floodwater. The Boston Red Sox moved their final game in their series against the Chicago Cubs to Sunday afternoon in Florida, while a professional football match between Red Bull New York and St Louis City SC was cancelled.

The Global Citizen Festival concert in New York City's Central Park, headlined by Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and John Legend, was also cancelled. Ed Sheeran's Boston concert, scheduled at Gillette Stadium, was called off due to safety concerns.
