Madhya Pradesh Government Banks Open Sunday Ahead Of Three-Day Strike From September 28

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh - Residents needing urgent banking assistance can visit public sector bank branches on Sunday, September 27, as the government has authorized their operation ahead of a three-day nationwide strike by bank employees. The Reserve Bank of India has permitted banks to open on Sunday for customers to complete essential transactions. Approximately 40,000 employees in Madhya Pradesh are anticipated to participate in the strike, which is scheduled from September 28 to 30.

Madhya Pradesh is home to around 7,000 bank branches, with significant concentrations in Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain. However, customers are advised to verify their specific branch's operating hours prior to visiting. The strike may result in delays for cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque clearing, demand drafts, and passbook updates. Although senior officers may still report to work, branches might face challenges in serving customers due to the limited staff.

While ATMs, UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking will likely remain operational, individual services could still experience delays. Banks have urged customers to complete any urgent branch-related tasks beforehand. The United Forum of Bank Unions is pushing for a five-day banking week, including Saturdays and Sundays as days off, replacing the current closure on the second and fourth Saturdays.

Additionally, they propose adding 40 minutes to each working day from Monday to Friday to compensate for the extra Saturday holidays. Their demands also encompass pension-related adjustments.
