LPU protests: Over 2,000 police deployed after stone-pelting, vehicles set ablaze

New Delhi: Punjab Police deployed over 2,000 officers at Lovely Professional University (LPU) following a violent protest over an alleged rape case on Sunday. ADGP M F Farooqui assured that law and order had been restored, with the force maintaining control throughout the night. The unrest began when students, claiming the alleged rape on campus, blocked National Highway 44, pelted stones at police, and damaged vehicles.

Two police cars were set ablaze, and several officers were injured. Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh confirmed rumors of hostel disturbances were false, and traffic had resumed. LPU temporarily halted mid-term exams and suspended classes for 10 days starting September 28, urging students to remain calm and connected for further updates.
