Lovely Professional University Students Go On Rampage Over Rape Claim, Vandalise Campus & Block NH-44 | Videos

On Sunday morning, students from Lovely Professional University in Punjab's Phagwara city erupted in a violent protest, causing extensive damage to the campus and blocking a major national highway. According to the students, an unknown individual allegedly raped a female student on university premises, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the allegation.

However, university officials denied the claims, calling them "rumors" and releasing a video statement from three female students who claimed no such incident occurred.

The protest, which began near a girls' hostel around 1 am, saw students climb onto a decommissioned MiG-23UM aircraft and a military tank, damage windows and flower pots, and set items on fire. They also blocked the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway-44, causing significant traffic congestion. The violent incident followed a similar protest the previous day at Chitkara University in Patiala, where students allegedly set a police vehicle on fire over unverified claims of female student suicides on campus.

Despite the protest, a heavy police presence was present, and the LPU management assured the students that their genuine grievances would be addressed. The students further demanded that the University Management System, which grants access to all varsity activities, remain accessible during the protest, and that the entire hostel staff be female. The LPU Vice Chancellor, Jaspal Singh Sandhu, promised to meet the protestors and assure them that their issues would be resolved.
