Kohli passes 15,000 ODI runs as India beat West Indies

India secured a dominant victory over the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield International Stadium on Sunday. The Indian team chased down 296 in their allotted 50 overs, leaving ample time to spare. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli spearheaded the batting assault, showcasing a stellar partnership.

The West Indies, who batted first, posted a total of 295/7 in their 50 overs. Justin Greaves shone with 101 runs off 108 balls in his maiden ODI century, while John Campbell contributed 62 runs, and Amir Jangoo added 58 runs off 43 balls. India's bowling department, anchored by Kuldeep Yadav, was instrumental in restricting the West Indies to the reduced total. Kuldeep claimed four wickets for just 40 runs in his 10 overs, and Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy each took two wickets.

Rohit Sharma set the tone for India's chase with a 32-ball 32, followed by a stellar performance from Shubman Gill, who smashed a brilliant 101. Virat Kohli, too, batted aggressively, reaching a half-century. The duo's partnership put India firmly in control throughout the chase.

Kohli's innings took on greater significance as he crossed the landmark of 15,000 ODI runs, becoming only the second Indian batter, after Sachin Tendulkar, to achieve this feat. His display solidified his position as one of the game's premier batsmen. India's victory gave them an early 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
