Kano govt restricts durbar after former emir Bayero’s public appearance

The Kano State Government has prohibited all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities within the Kano metropolis, effective immediately. The ban was announced in a media statement by the government's Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The measure was taken following an emergency meeting of the State Security Council, which reviewed the security situation surrounding the planned activities.

Concerns over potential confrontations, public order disruption, and loss of life or property damage prompted the precautionary measures. The government cited significant mobilisation of supporters for the events as a cause for alarm, fearing clashes and a breakdown of law and order. Security agencies across the state have been directed to enforce the restriction and penalise any violations or threatening activities.

Residents, traditional institutions, political actors, and stakeholders are urged to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while complying with the directive. The government assured that all necessary measures are being taken to protect lives and property and maintain peace and public order throughout the state.
