JPJ seizes 3,790 luxury vehicles worth RM550m in nationwide crackdown since June 2025

KOTA BHARU, Sept 27 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a staggering 3,790 luxury vehicles valued at approximately RM550 million across the nation since June 2025, as part of their Ops Luxury initiative. According to JPJ senior director of enforcement Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, 785 vehicles were seized between June and December 2025, with an additional 3,005 vehicles taken between January and September 26 of this year.

Negeri Sembilan topped the list for seized vehicles, with 469, followed by Selangor (410), Kuala Lumpur (382), Johor (367), and Penang (357).

JPJ's crackdown has left some luxury vehicle owners hesitant to renew their road tax, citing past blacklists. Notably, lower-income groups have been renewing their road tax without issue, while owners of luxury vehicles from the T20 group provide various excuses for non-compliance, leading to vehicle seizures. Investigations revealed that about 20% of luxury vehicle owners are connected to the cosmetics, influencer, and business sectors.

Muhammad Kifli emphasized that JPJ will continue Ops Luxury to ensure compliance with the law, regardless of the vehicle's price, type, or owner's status. He stressed that the responsibility to maintain valid vehicle and driving documents lies with owners and drivers, who must ensure their vehicles meet all requirements before being driven on the road.
