IT chief welcomes competition at Northern Metropolis

Northern Metropolis authorities are stepping up their communication efforts to clarify the scope of business operations among companies operating in various industrial parks, Technology Minister Sun Dong announced on a Commercial Radio program. Sun emphasized that competition among companies in attracting enterprises and investments to parks like San Tin Technopole and Hetao Hong Kong Park could be beneficial, stating that a certain degree of overlap in business operations was reasonable.

The minister clarified that if a company wished to work on advanced construction or transport and logistics at San Tin Technopole, the government would direct it to other sites, ensuring each facility adheres to its defined scope of operations. As of now, 80 percent of the floor space at the 10-story Loop Academic One (Building 1) has been leased, and the remaining buildings are projected to be operational by year-end.

Additionally, Sun announced that two pilot lines of the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) would commence operations at the Microelectronics Centre in Yuen Long by year-end, with MRDI already securing cooperation agreements worth tens of millions of dollars. The minister expects the pilot lines to attract over 50 such orders annually, signaling a strong growth potential for the region's tech sector.
