IGP: Police probing Negri Sembilan royal institution issue, may involve sedition

Butterworth, September 27 — The police plan to call upon former Negeri Sembilan state executive council members in the days ahead, as part of their investigation into the recent administrative and royal institution crisis in the state. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail disclosed that the police intend to record statements from these individuals, alongside those of several witnesses and other pertinent parties.

He stated that numerous police reports have been submitted, prompting their proactive approach in conducting the investigation.

So far, the police have summoned several people to provide their accounts, including potential witnesses to the incident. Inspector-General Mohd Khalid made these remarks during an event where he inaugurated the Penang Police Contingent's 'Whitening the Blackspot' project. He addressed the police's investigation into the crisis from various angles, with the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, emphasizing the focus on preventing violence and maintaining public safety and order.

Mohd Khalid further elaborated that his team is currently finalizing the investigation papers, which will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action. Regarding the legal provisions applied in the investigation, he mentioned that the police are still reviewing all reports and do not dismiss the possibility of cases involving the Sedition Act or other legal provisions.

The police are conducting the investigation while the final decision on prosecution rests with the Attorney General, who will assess potential cases linked to the Sedition Act, other violations, or any other applicable legal provisions.

Mohd Khalid also noted that the security and public order situation in Negeri Sembilan remains stable and under control. The community appears to be well-informed about the developments and is cooperating effectively with the authorities. "Alhamdulillah, everything is fine and under control. The community seems to understand the situation and is providing excellent cooperation. We are committed to maintaining this positive state of affairs for the safety of the community and the people of Negeri Sembilan," he concluded.
