Hamas leader Hayya swears commitment to ‘resistance,’ confirms group running in PLC elections

Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya declared his group's unwavering commitment to the "resistance" and announced that Hamas will participate in the Palestinian Legislative Council elections in November. During a lengthy interview on Saturday, Al-Hayya stated that Hamas would continue resisting the occupation using any means permitted by their charters, norms, international laws, and Sharia Law.

He emphasized that the October 7 attacks were a continuation of the Palestinian people's struggle against occupation, citing Israel's attempts to erase the Palestinian cause and target the Al-Aqsa Mosque as reasons for the violence. Al-Hayya also highlighted the international community's responsibility to stop the "genocide" in Gaza and celebrated Israel's rejection at the United Nations General Assembly, where many officials walked out during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech.

He noted a solidarity movement among various groups, including athletes, politicians, journalists, and artists, as an international indication to the Israeli occupation that enough was enough. Al-Hayya further revealed that Hamas is willing to engage in talks with Fatah and intends to participate in forming the electoral coalition for the PLC election.

Although he acknowledged that Hamas had followed US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan, Al-Hayya suggested that the plan's 13th point, which prohibits any role in Gaza's governance, may be violated. Despite this, he affirmed that the coalition "open to all forces" will continue operating, and Hamas is closely monitoring the Israeli elections while acknowledging that all parties have contributed to Palestinian suffering.
