Germany has 650,000 jobs for skilled professionals: Clint Khan on Opportunity Card

Germany currently offers 650,000 job opportunities for skilled professionals, making it a prime destination for those considering careers abroad and potential settlement, according to Clint Khan, Director of Y-Axis. Speaking at a fireside chat during the Gulf News LevelUP event in Dubai, Khan highlighted that Germany accounts for approximately 25 percent of the European Union’s job requirements currently unfilled.

One of the entry routes for skilled professionals is Germany’s Opportunity Card, or Chancenkarte, which permits non-EU nationals to enter the country for up to 12 months to seek qualified employment without needing a pre-arranged job contract. This card allows individuals to initially work part-time, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time job and securing an employer-sponsored work permit.

Finance, AI, and Executive MBAs are among the popular choices for professionals attending the Gulf News LevelUP event. The Opportunity Card can be obtained through either a points-based system or by having foreign qualifications fully recognized in Germany, with the latter route often leading to the EU Blue Card, which offers the potential for permanent settlement in Germany after several years of employment.

Khan emphasized that the decision to study abroad should not be solely driven by the desire for a residency permit, but rather by genuine interest in education, taking into account future prospects and long-term plans. For those who prefer a different path, Germany's skilled migration programs, alongside those in Australia and Canada, provide viable alternatives for career advancement abroad.
