Father and son crowned Sheep Dog World Trial champions

David and Jack Howells made history as the first father and son duo to jointly win champions titles at the Sheep Dog World Trial. The pair hails from Cymmer, Neath Port Talbot, and participated in the trials held in Scotland last weekend. Farmer David Howells secured the world title with his Border Collie, Wyverne Pip, while his 19-year-old son, Jack, claimed the Young Handler world title with his dog, Cydros Boss.

David expressed his disbelief at the win, stating, "I feel upside down... I didn't expect to win. I can't quite believe it, to be honest." He emphasized the significance of the achievement, noting that it marked the first time a parent and child had both won the same titles at a world trial.

Both David and Jack are deeply involved in sheep farming, and the sheep dogs play a crucial role in their daily work. David highlighted that their love for the sport began during the Covid years when Jack, then 10, started taking an interest in sheep dogs after spending more time at home. David took pride in Jack's dedication and passion for the sport.

The trials involved a series of challenging stages where dogs had to navigate through various obstacles, such as driving through gates, sorting sheep, and placing them in pens. Jack admitted that the victory still hadn't fully sunk in, and he expressed gratitude to his family, who came to support him at the event.

Looking ahead, Jack expressed his intention to continue pursuing the sport and participate in the upcoming International Championship.
