Devils beaten 3-1 at Steelers in Challenge Cup

Cardiff Devils suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Steelers in the Challenge Cup on Friday night. The Devils, who have won all three of their home games this season, remain without a victory on the road in the competition. The Steelers maintained their perfect record of 100% in Group A.

Ryan Barrow scored for the Devils with a breakaway midway through the first period, putting his team ahead. However, Dominic Cormier equalized for Sheffield 27 seconds before the first intermission, deflecting a shot off Brandon Whistle's stick into the net. Mitchell Balmas added another goal for the Steelers in the second period, following a shorthanded play. Macoy Erkamps sealed the win for Sheffield with an empty-net goal 11 seconds from the end of the game.

The Steelers now top the table with eight points from two regulation and two overtime victories. Cardiff are second with six points after three wins and three losses. Despite the setback, Devils head coach Paul Thompson expressed satisfaction with his team's performance. He acknowledged that the Devils did not show up last week in Guildford, contrasting their effort with the one demonstrated in this match. Thompson praised his team's commitment and pushback in the game, stating that they gave their all.
