Deputy Local Gov’t Minister cuts sod for construction of Ga Odumase Market

On September 25, 2026, the construction of Ga Odumase Market in the Ga West Municipality began with a sod-cutting ceremony. The new market aims to offer traders a safer, cleaner, more accessible, and well-organized space for commerce, thereby enhancing economic development and livelihood opportunities in the area. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, emphasized the government's dedication to inclusive growth, improved service delivery, and creating favorable conditions for local businesses.

She highlighted that modern market infrastructure is vital for empowering traders, particularly women and small enterprises, boosting revenue collection for the assembly, and supporting the 24-hour economy agenda. Sowah called upon the contractor to deliver high-quality work within the stipulated timelines to ensure value for money and urged the Ga West Municipal Assembly to ensure rigorous supervision and monitoring throughout the construction process to maintain standards.

The Deputy Minister also urged the community to take ownership of the facility and protect it for future generations. Upon completion, Ga Odumase Market is anticipated to accommodate numerous traders, enhance sanitation, and stimulate economic activity within the Ga West Municipality.
