CAT member recuses from hearing Sanjiv Chaturvedi’s plea – 17th such instance for IFS officer in 13 years

Seventeen judicial officers have withdrawn from cases involving Uttarakhand-cadre Indian Forest Service officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi, citing various reasons. Most recently, CAT Delhi bench judge Rajveer Singh Verma recused himself on September 21 from hearing Chaturvedi's petition challenging a government order related to IFS officers' Appraisal Report Channel.

This follows a series of recusals by judicial officers, including two Supreme Court judges, four Uttarakhand High Court judges, nine CAT judges, and two district judiciary judges. The recusals date back to November 2013, when then-Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjan Gogoi stepped aside from hearing a case seeking a CBI investigation into Chaturvedi's corruption and harassment allegations.
