Calvin football finally 'felt like we were home' in debut of its first home stadium, Knight Field

Calvin University's football team kicked off their first season at the brand-new Knight Field with a resounding 66-20 victory over Olivet on Saturday. Trent Figg, the team's coach, was initially unsure how to proceed once they descended the stairs to the field, but the players rallied and delivered a stellar performance.

The game was a testament to the hard work of the coaches and players who had been dedicated to the cause despite the lack of a proper stadium. Head coach Vaccaro praised the efforts of all involved, particularly those who had been with the team since the beginning. Knight Stadium, which is located in Grand Rapids, was packed to capacity with 3,100 seats sold out for the match.

Quarterback Trent Figg was a standout performer, throwing six touchdown passes in the first half alone and completing 28 of his 37 passes for 365 yards. Wide receiver Beau Harris and Carter Bylsma also had significant contributions, each securing a touchdown. Luke Michmerhuizen, a standout wide receiver, caught six passes for 96 yards, earning high praise from his teammates and coach.

The team's diverse roster includes six players from the Holland area, with the rest hailing from various Michigan high schools. The Knights have a total of 111 players, almost all of whom are from Michigan. As the team celebrated this historic day, the band played an impromptu alma mater singalong, with all players joining in despite not knowing the words. The future of Calvin University football looks bright under the leadership of Trent Figg and the dedication of the entire team.
