CAF reverses Edo Queens WAFU B victory

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned Edo Queens' victory in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League Women's African Football Union-B (WAFU-B) qualifying final. This decision came after the Ghanaian team, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, protested the match's conclusion. Ampem Darkoa claimed they should have played 30 minutes of extra time following a 2-2 draw in Ouagadougou on September 5th, instead of going straight to penalties.

Edo Queens ultimately won 4-1 on penalties to secure the title and a spot in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. CAF ruled that the final did not meet competition regulations because extra time was not played. Article 72.4 mandates two 15-minute periods of extra time when the final is tied after 90 minutes, with penalties only used if the scores remain even after the additional 30 minutes.

Consequently, Edo Queens' shootout triumph is no longer valid. The match will now resume from its original 2-2 scoreline, with both teams playing two 15-minute periods of extra time. If the teams are still tied after the extended play, penalties will decide the winner. The team that emerges victorious will earn the zone's qualification spot for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
