Bersama sasar tingkat undi, bukan menang PRN Melaka

Wong Chen, a prominent leader of Bersatu, stated that the party does not expect to win in Melaka's PRN, acknowledging that the state is a stronghold of Umno. In an interview with Utusan Malaysia, Wong said that Bersatu is targeting a slight improvement in the upcoming PRN Melaka, while admitting the party faces a significant challenge to gain a seat in the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN).

The former Subang MP, along with Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, admitted that the party's goal is to achieve a notable increase in every election, emphasizing that PRN Melaka will only be the second battle for Bersatu. "We don't expect to win. We've only been five months, but at least we learn from the experience of competing in Johor," Wong said, quoted by Utusan Malaysia.

Last month, Bersatu announced 15 candidates for PRN Melaka, including Dr Solehin Saleh, the nephew of the Deputy Youth Chief of Umno and former Adun Merlimau, Dr Akmal Saleh. Wong, a former PKR leader, said that Bersatu may not contest in PRN Sarawak and instead focus on other state elections that may be held before PRU16. He said that Bersatu has a stronger presence in urban areas, particularly Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, compared to Johor and Melaka.

The former three-term MP added that Bersatu is aiming to win 10 parliamentary seats in PRU16, which it considers a realistic target. Wong said that Bersatu has seen former PKR, Umno and PAS members join the party since its founding in May. "We have a simple and progressive platform, with good Malay leadership, and we can grow," Wong said.

He also mentioned that the multi-ethnic approach will be more appealing to the middle class and those living in cities.
