Bangkok flooding shows signs of easing, but key canals still at critical levels

Bangkok is experiencing easing flooding conditions as rainfall subsides, according to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt. The monsoon trough and low-pressure system responsible for the recent downpour have moved away from the city, resulting in lighter to moderate rain in most areas. Chadchart noted that rainfall conditions in Bangkok and the eastern region are improving compared to the past two to three days.

However, water levels in critical canals near the Chao Phraya River, including Khlong Prem Prachakon, Khlong Lat Phrao, Khlong Saen Saep, and Khlong Prawet Buri Rom, are still at concerning levels. These canals are undergoing ongoing pumping operations as water continues to flow into them. Residents are advised to check road conditions before traveling, and response teams have been deployed to assist those stranded by the floodwaters in Lat Krabang, Nong Chok, and Min Buri.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesaengchan assured the public that consumer goods and daily essentials remain well-stocked, and the government is closely monitoring the situation to prevent panic. She stated that the government has instructed relevant agencies to coordinate efforts to support affected communities.

The Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that supplies of consumer goods are adequate and have not raised concerns about price increases. The department is working with manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and convenience stores to ensure inventory restocking and prompt distribution to areas experiencing high demand, recognizing that flooding has impacted transportation and access to some outlets.
