Apple's smart glasses predicted for 2027, upgraded Apple Vision Pro 2028

Apple is reportedly working on a new headset, referred to as N224, which is set to arrive between late 2028 and early 2029, according to Bloomberg. Unlike the previously shelved Vision Air project, this new iteration may not be aimed at being a cheaper alternative, but rather, a successor to the existing M5-based Vision Pro model.

Currently, Apple has four concepts in the works, with one concept mirroring the recently unveiled Meta VR glasses, which incorporates the compute and battery into an external puck. However, some Apple executives are hesitant about this approach and prefer an all-in-one design. Apple may experiment with materials for the headset, including plastic, titanium, and other metals, to reduce weight.

They are also exploring the possibility of a standalone puck combining computing components and battery, similar to Meta's recent VR glasses. The A20 Pro chip, which is highly efficient for its thermal envelope, could enable Apple to develop a more powerful A-series chip in the next two years, potentially eliminating the need for active cooling.
