Anemic Saints run game needs to show some life against Raiders

New Orleans Saints host Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, marking their first home game of the 2026 season. The Saints currently sit at 1-1, while the Raiders boast a surprising 2-0 record. The team's offensive improvements have largely been driven by quarterback Tyler Shough and receiver success, with their run game lagging behind, ranking in the lower half of the league.

Raiders' defensive line boasts formidable defensive players, such as Maxx Crosby and Kwity Paye, who excel in both pass and run defense. Additionally, rookie second-round pick Treydan Stukes will be absent from Sunday’s game due to a concussion, leaving the defensive backs to shoulder more responsibility. Linebackers Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean have significantly contributed to the Raiders' defense this offseason, displaying impressive athleticism and play awareness.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints' rushing attack remains significantly problematic, ranking near the bottom of the league. Running backs Travis Etienne Jr., David Edwards, and Kendre Miller have collectively failed to provide substantial yardage, averaging just 3.2 yards per rush and 61 yards per game. The offensive line, particularly left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who will be out for several weeks, is struggling to create space and open lanes for the running backs.

As the Saints aim to balance their offensive strategy, a substantial improvement in both the offensive line and rushing attack is necessary to provide support for the struggling passing game.
