Ancy Sojan wins silver as Chinese jumps end India’s hope of double podium

Ancy Sojan secured a silver medal in women's long jump at the Asian Games, following in the footsteps of Anju Bobby George as the second Indian woman to achieve two medals in the event. The 6.53-meter jump secured her the silver position, marking her second medal at the continental showcase after previously winning a gold medal.

However, India's aspirations for a double podium finish came to an end as Chinese jumpers outperformed their Indian counterparts in the final jump. Ancy Sojan started strong, occupying the gold medal position after her first attempt of 6.49 meters. Yet, Mengyi Tan's 6.46 meters leap displaced Ancy, while Huang Y's 6.55 meters leap took the gold away from Shaili Singh.

Throughout the competition, Shaili Singh demonstrated remarkable consistency, steadily improving her jumps with each attempt. Starting at 6.25 meters, she climbed to 6.42 meters by the fifth attempt, securing the bronze position. Yet, it was the decisive last jump by Mengyi Tan that sealed India's medal-less outcome in the event.
