Alitheia Capital backs financing for women-led businesses

Alitheia Capital, in partnership with 300 women-led businesses in manufacturing, agriculture, and nutrition, has advocated for customized financing solutions at the W.O.M.A.N. conference. The three-day event in Lagos, organized by Alitheia Capital, examined the obstacles that prevent women-led enterprises from accessing capital, energy, technology, and markets.

The conference, themed 'Scaling Women-Led Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Nutrition MSMEs: Providing Pathways to Capital, Energy, AI and Markets for Business Resilience,' aimed to transition these businesses from survival to sustainable growth.

Abisola Olusanya, Lagos State's Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, emphasized that women-led businesses continue to face significant barriers in obtaining appropriate finance and growth capital. She highlighted the collective responsibility of government, financial institutions, private equity and venture capital, development partners, and the entrepreneurs themselves in overcoming these challenges.

Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, CEO of DO.II Designs Limited, underscored the importance of financial discipline in gaining access to capital and growth opportunities. She noted that financial discipline creates business legibility, which in turn fosters credibility and attracts investment.

The conference also addressed regulatory and infrastructure constraints, financing options, and the use of green manufacturing to reduce costs and enhance operational resilience. Alitheia Capital's investment-readiness program equipped entrepreneurs with knowledge on financial statements, unit economics, governance, and capital structuring.

Jumoke Akinwunmi, Co-Founder of Alitheia Capital, concluded that the readiness of women-led businesses was not the issue; rather, it was the ecosystem's ability to provide suitable financing. The second day of the conference focused on AI adoption, with Google Hustle Academy partnering to help entrepreneurs apply AI to their business operations and marketing.
