Air Peace cites Jet A1 shortage, Maiduguri airport restriction for flight disruption

Air Peace has cited a shortage of Jet A1 aviation fuel and operating restrictions at the Maiduguri airport as reasons for recent flight disruptions at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The airline shared this information on X on September 27, 2026, in response to complaints and videos from stranded passengers on social media. The issue initially affected Abuja operations due to the unavailability of Jet A1 fuel, which also impacted other airlines.

Once fuel became available, Air Peace resumed affected flights, but the Abuja-Maiduguri service was halted due to changes in operating conditions at the destination airport. Passengers were informed about the delays and provided refreshments, while those affected by cancellations were offered hotel accommodation. The airline mentioned that arrangements were made to resume the cancelled service the following day.

This latest disruption is not Air Peace's first experience with Jet A1 availability issues. In April 2026, the airline reduced its Abuja-London service to three flights per week due to ongoing Jet A1 supply constraints. The current situation is part of a larger trend of challenges faced by Nigerian airlines concerning Jet A1 supply and cost.

Nigeria's Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recently emerged as a major supplier of aviation fuel to international markets, supplying about one-fifth of the continent's imported aviation fuel in July.
