Agege Political Earthquake: Egunjobi, Yusuf Shown the APC Door as Obasa Camp Faces Fresh Turbulence

Political tension in the Agege area is intensifying once more, with former Local Government Chairman Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf among those who have been expelled from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Lagos State chapter of the APC announced the expulsions on Wednesday, citing anti-party activities and behavior that contravenes party discipline.

However, the incident has added fuel to the already volatile political situation in the constituency. The expulsion appears to be rooted in the outcome of disputed primaries, where neither Egunjobi nor Yusuf managed to secure the party’s nomination for Agege Constituencies I and II, respectively. Instead, Gbenga Abiola and Sakiru Enimakure emerged as the party’s candidates.

Undeterred by the setbacks, Egunjobi and Yusuf transferred their ambitions to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), transforming an internal party dispute into a more compelling political saga. The APC, unwilling to allow its former aspirants to contest the same seats under another banner, has effectively barred them from participating in its activities.

Egunjobi and Yusuf, however, dispute their expulsion, claiming they resigned from the APC in July prior to the formal removal. They maintain that one cannot expel individuals who have voluntarily left the party. Additionally, the duo have distanced themselves from Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, emphasizing that he neither orchestrated nor influenced their departure from the APC.

Agege is now caught in a complex web of political maneuverings, with the APC nominating candidates while Egunjobi and Yusuf stand with the APM. The expulsion may have concluded their chapter in the APC, but politically, the story clearly has more twists to come.
