Again, Obasa in the Eyes of the Storm

Since the impeachment saga that shook the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has remained a central figure in Lagos politics. However, just as it seemed tensions were calming, Obasa has found himself once again in the spotlight. This time, the intrigue is stemming from Agege, his familiar political region. At the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, two politicians closely linked to Obasa, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, failed to secure the party's tickets for Agege Constituencies 1 and 2, respectively.

This setback was reportedly met with displeasure. Despite securing the APC ticket for the 2027 House of Representatives election, Obasa reportedly backed the two aspirants. Nevertheless, Egunjobi and Yusuf opted not to accept the party's outcome. Unwilling to relinquish their political ambitions, both politicians reportedly transitioned to the Allied People’s Movement (APM) to contest the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.

This shift has now unfolded a new chapter in Obasa’s political story. According to Society Watch, chatter has begun in political circles, with some alleging that Obasa covertly encouraged his loyalists to defect to another political platform. These rumors have naturally sparked the perennial "anti-party" question. However, those close to Obasa swiftly refuted the insinuation, asserting that the Speaker had no influence over the decision of Egunjobi and Yusuf to leave the APC.

They claim the two politicians decided to switch parties independently after their losses in the primaries. For now, the allegations remain unconfirmed, but the development has added another intriguing subplot to Obasa’s already colorful political narratives.
