After meeting, EC says officials will visit homes of those sent notices

The Election Commission of India (EC) held its inaugural meeting on Saturday, following reports of possible internal disagreements. During the meeting, officials decided to waive hearings for electors who have received notices for being unmapped to the last Single Integral Register (SIR) or due to logical discrepancies. Instead of conducting hearings, EROs and Assistant EROs will visit the homes of such electors to collect the necessary documents, which will then be uploaded to ECINet for a final decision.

The EC also agreed to conduct an independent audit of the ECINET software, while rejecting allegations that EROs were being excluded. In exceptional circumstances, as decided by the ERO, hearings may be held, preferably online. Any adult family member can be authorized by the elector to attend the hearing on their behalf if required.

The EC also stated that facilities for online hearings will be enhanced, and Departmental Executive Officers (DEOs) will establish more help desks and hold special camps for the disadvantaged, including the poor, laborers, homeless individuals, and those residing in night shelters.
