2027: Kebbi warns against thuggery, urges peaceful campaigns

The Kebbi State Government has declared it will not tolerate political violence or unrest ahead of the 2027 general elections. Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, asserted this stance in a statement from Birnin Kebbi on Saturday. Responding to recent violence in Jega, where suspected political thugs allegedly damaged property, Zuru condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation by security forces to hold accountable anyone found guilty, regardless of their political allegiance.

Zuru urged all political parties, their backers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to maintain restraint and refrain from actions or statements that could further inflame tensions. He emphasized that political disagreements should be settled through dialogue, lawful democratic procedures, and peaceful interaction rather than through confrontation.

Furthermore, Zuru cautioned political entities, groups, and individuals against promoting or engaging in activities that could jeopardize public peace and security. The government, he stated, would collaborate with security forces, traditional leaders, and communities to safeguard lives and property, and uphold peace across the state.

Zuru encouraged residents to reject violence and inflammatory language as political activities intensify in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, warning that politically motivated violence would not be permitted to hinder the state's socio-economic progress and development initiatives.
