We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians

In the realm of mathematics, there were once students who found it challenging to keep up with the rapid pace of top students. Eventually, most of these students abandoned their pursuit of research mathematics. This experience has stayed with me, as I contemplate the difficulties faced by many in our community. As we enter a new era, where artificial intelligence systems generate groundbreaking ideas, we must recognize that we, too, may soon feel overwhelmed.

It is crucial that we do not succumb to the temptation of abandoning our pursuit of research mathematics, as doing so would be a grave mistake. Instead, we should embrace the opportunity to build a future where humans can meaningfully contribute to the discoveries that will shape our world. Struggle is an essential part of understanding complex concepts, and this struggle can be shared among a multitude of research groups.

By dedicating sustained support and resources to understand AI-generated ideas, we can ensure that we are prepared to tackle the most critical mathematical challenges that lie ahead.
