Washington happy to supply India's energy needs

New Delhi's energy needs are being met by the United States, according to a senior US official. Deputy Assistant Secretary Bethany Morrison stated at a New York Foreign Press Centre roundtable that India-US relations have expanded to include energy, defence, commercial cooperation, and multilateral engagements. Morrison highlighted the ten-year defence framework agreement between the two nations and new initiatives in the energy sector as examples of this growing partnership.

India recently reformed its nuclear regulatory environment with the passage of the SHANTI Act, leading to increased civil nuclear cooperation. Morrison proudly noted that the US is now the largest exporter of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to India, emphasizing the diversification of energy sources. The official also mentioned cooperation ranging from energy and commercial deals to defence engagements and multilateral diplomatic meetings, including the Quad.

Morrison highlighted the South Asian region as a major priority for the Trump administration, emphasizing its critical role in global affairs that has been overlooked in the past.
