Wakefield shock Wigan to reach first Grand Final

In a remarkable upset, Wakefield Trinity defeated Wigan Warriors, securing their first ever Super League Grand Final appearance and ending Wigan's hopes of a treble in 2026. The visitors led 8-6 at the end of the first half and capitalized on Adam Keighran's second-half yellow card, with Tom Johnstone, Jack Sinfield and Corey Hall all crossing the try line while Wigan was shorthanded.

England winger Johnstone replied to Brad O'Neill's opening try for Wigan, while Ky Rodwell added a fifth try for Wakefield. The Championship side, recently making huge strides under owner Matt Ellis and head coach Daryl Powell, are now just one win away from claiming the Super League title. They will face Warrington Wolves in the final on October 3.

Wigan, riding a 16-game winning streak with two victories already secured, failed to advance to their fourth consecutive Grand Final. Wakefield's 33 unanswered points, led by Johnstone's two tries, Sinfield's contributions, and Hall's impressive performance, have established them as the sixth club to win a Grand Final since the event began in 1998.
