'Voices are rising from within EC': Pawan Khera

Congress leader Pawan Khera expressed his outrage over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, criticizing him for allegedly seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe against himself. Khera urged Kumar to resign, asserting that his safety and future interests necessitate his departure from office. He argued that if Kumar were to become a whistleblower, his future would be spent in jail.

Khera also accused voices within the Election Commission of rising in support of Kumar, warning that their concerns might intensify protests. The Congress leader's remarks followed a Supreme Court plea filed by Kumar, alleging unilateral decision-making and breaches of official duty within the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The petition sought an SIT inquiry led by a retired Supreme Court judge, the restoration of decentralized access to electoral roll systems, and the restoration of certain election-related changes. Opposition parties across India have intensified their criticism of the Election Commission, alleging transparency issues and demanding accountability.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission maintains that its actions are part of normal functioning and that all final decisions were taken unanimously.
