USC football news: Freshman DE draws bold Aidan Hutchinson comp

USC freshman defensive end Luke Wafle has quickly become a focal point of the Trojans' impressive high school recruiting efforts. As USC prepares for their upcoming game against Oregon, Wafle is already being compared to another standout defensive talent, Aidan Hutchinson. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic revealed that two coaches independently praised Wafle's potential.

One coach, impressed by Wafle's performance, remarked that he resembles a fifth-year senior rather than a true freshman. Another offensive line coach, who previously faced USC, went even further, drawing a direct comparison to Hutchinson. The coach stated that Wafle's size and length make him a formidable presence that will be highly effective for the Trojans.

Wafle's impressive credentials as a prospect are well-documented. He was a consensus five-star recruit and ranked No. 1 overall by Rivals.com. Before committing to USC, Wafle considered three other programs, including Ohio State and Penn State. Once enrolled at USC, he immediately made his mark as a starter and earned a starting role by fall camp.

In just four games of the 2026 season, Wafle has amassed 15 total tackles and demonstrated both run-stopping ability and pass-rushing potential. While he hasn't yet recorded a sack, Wafle has proven to be a disruptive force along the defensive edge.
