US tells Iran it cannot set conditions on Strait of Hormuz: Axios

According to Axios, US negotiators conveyed to Iran that it does not possess control over the Strait of Hormuz, and consequently cannot enforce conditions regarding its usage, as per Al Arabiya. A US official, cited by Axios, stated that constructive dialogues between Washington and Tehran are underway via intermediaries, notwithstanding former President Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's proposal.

The official further noted that approximately 60 million barrels of oil have traversed the Strait of Hormuz within the last 72 hours. Prior to this, Iran had presented a plan to Washington for reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, contingent upon specific conditions, with the resumption of talks between the two nations following the reopening.

However, the US president, Donald Trump, dismissed Iran's proposal, asserting that Tehran is enduring substantial losses owing to the strait's closure. Trump alleged that Iran desires a deal, yet deemed it unfeasible. He emphasized that the United States has instituted the most extensive blockade in military history and established a "wall of steel" around the Strait of Hormuz.
