Umahi orders contractors to open multiple work fronts on superhighway project

Works Minister David Umahi has instructed contractors working on the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway to open multiple work fronts and expedite construction, during an inspection of the project. The minister emphasized the need for contractors to deploy ample manpower and resources to overcome engineering challenges, including rivers and swampy areas, and ensure simultaneous progress at various locations.

Umahi stated that contractors must devise engineering solutions to navigate the challenging terrain without compromising the highway's quality or longevity. During the inspection, he directed the contractor responsible for Section Two to open at least three work fronts, while also ordering that no buildings should be demolished within the proposed alignment without a thorough technical assessment.

The minister pledged that the ministry would make necessary technical adjustments to the alignment, especially around sharp curves and built-up areas, without imposing additional costs on the Federal Government under the financing agreement. Umahi commended the contractor for the progress made thus far and acknowledged the project's contribution to economic development by creating employment and improving connectivity.
