UCLA stays unbeaten with a 54-3 drubbing of hapless Maryland

College Park, Md. (AP) — UCLA maintained its perfect 4-0 record with a dominant 54-3 victory over Maryland on Saturday. Star players Ta’Shawn James and Scooter Jackson each returned interceptions for touchdowns in the third quarter. Wayne Knight rushed for 100 yards and a score to lead the Bruins, who are entering their bye week undefeated under new coach Bob Chesney.

Maryland (2-2, 0-1) struggled to find success on the ground, with Malik Washington throwing four interceptions after failing to establish the run early. UCLA’s first three touchdowns came directly from scrimmage plays, including a 45-yard touchdown run by Knight in the second quarter. Maryland’s efforts to pass were thwarted, as Jaivian Thomas added a 3-yard touchdown run and the game was sealed with an 83-yard touchdown pass by Nico Iamaleava and a 63-yard touchdown run by Troy Leigber.
