Trump rejects Iranian peace proposal, report says

U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and cease regional hostilities within a week, according to the Wall Street Journal. The report, based on unnamed U.S. officials, suggests Trump anticipates resuming airstrikes following November's congressional elections. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed Iran's peace initiative to the U.S. through Qatari mediators at the United Nations on Friday.

Araqchi stated that a deal would initiate a seven-day countdown to the reopening of the strait and a halt to regional strife, adding, "If there is seriousness on the U.S. side to come to a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, everything is now prepared."
