Traffic policeman hit by car while controlling traffic for Kelantan Sultan’s convoy in Tumpat

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — A young traffic officer sustained injuries after being struck by a vehicle while managing the flow of traffic for the Kelantan Sultan's convoy in Tumpat, Kelantan, on Tuesday. The incident took place around 1:25pm at the Kampung Kepulau traffic-light intersection in Palekbang, where the officer from the Tumpat district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division was blocking the road heading from Morak to Palekbang.

According to Harian Metro, the road closure was necessary to allow Sultan Muhammad V's convoy to pass as the Kelantan ruler participated in Friday prayers and a public feast marking his 57th birthday. Tumpat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie revealed that a Proton Saga driven by a 55-year-old woman from Morak failed to see the police officer before hitting him.

The 22-year-old officer fell and experienced minor injuries, receiving outpatient treatment at Tumpat Hospital. The driver remained unharmed. The police are probing the incident under Section 79(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are seeking dashcam footage or other recordings that might aid the investigation. Mohd Khairi urged all road users to heed police instructions during traffic control duties and to stay vigilant about road conditions, especially during special operations and traffic-control exercises, to avoid future mishaps.
