Thousands face long road to recovery month after devastating Nepal floods

KATHMANDU, Nepal - Narayan Prassan, who returned to his home in Nepal after a five-year stint in Saudi Arabia, lost his house in the 2015 earthquake. He later rebuilt his home and lived contentedly with his family. However, the floods that hit last month have once again devastated everything he had rebuilt. Now living in a relative's house, Prassan is contemplating another trip abroad to start anew. "This flood has taken everything," he lamented. "I don't know what to do."

The floods have displaced thousands of people in the region, leaving them in a dire situation. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with crews searching for missing individuals, many of whom are believed to be trapped in the six hydropower project tunnels. The disaster has posed a significant challenge for the government, which now faces a lengthy and expensive recovery process. Families are struggling with the loss of their homes, loved ones, and their means of livelihood.
