SZA Inducted Into New Jersey Hall of Fame by Danny DeVito

SZA, the seven-time Grammy-winning artist, has been honored with an induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame during its 18th annual ceremony on Thursday, September 24. The event took place at the Dream Live Performing Arts Center in East Rutherford and was hosted by fellow New Jersey native Danny DeVito. SZA, born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, shared on Instagram that meeting DeVito was her most important highlight of the night.

In her acceptance speech, SZA expressed her gratitude for the honor, acknowledging the community that shaped her from working at a pizza parlor to a shoe store. She praised the small-town community she grew up in and pledged to carry that spirit of community around the world. SZA also recognized her Columbia High School classmate Lauryn Hill, who has yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and criticized the tendency to overlook New Jersey, advocating for the state's rich musical heritage.

The New Jersey Hall of Fame roster already includes notable figures like Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Queen Latifah, the Jonas Brothers, Wyclef Jean, and the Isley Brothers.
