Suicide blast targeting DI Khan police checkpost claims 12 lives, injures 30

On Saturday, a suicide bombing at a police checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan claimed the lives of 12 people and left 35 others injured. The attack occurred at the Aman Mela checkpost located near Mughal Kot and Darazinda on the DI Khan-Quetta Road, a route that borders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. An unidentified attacker rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into the checkpost, destroying a significant portion and demolishing a house nearby.

No law enforcement or security personnel were among the casualties, which included a Customs official, nine men, two women, and a minor. The explosion was heard over a considerable distance and was followed by heavy gunfire. Rescue teams from Rescue 1122, along with over 25 personnel, six ambulances, and a fire vehicle, responded to the scene for relief operations.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, calling it a "nefarious conspiracy" and expressing condolences to the bereaved families. The state's Interior Ministry also condemned the act and reaffirmed its resolve against terrorism. The incident comes amid an increase in terrorist activity in the region, with recent attacks targeting police checkposts.
