Speeding car crashes into auto, rickshaw; kills 1; accused was racing, cops told

A 45-year-old auto-rickshaw driver named Mohammad Kalam was killed and another person, Mohammad Bablu, was injured when a speeding car allegedly crashed into his vehicle and then hit a cycle rickshaw in Sukhdev Vihar, Southeast Delhi on Saturday morning. Kalam, a resident of New Friends Colony, was declared dead at Escorts Hospital, with his body sent to AIIMS for a postmortem examination. The injured Bablu lives near Sukhdev Vihar Metro station.

According to eyewitness Jeet, two cars were racing each other shortly before the crash, which took place around 7 am. The car driver was reportedly returning from a friend's birthday party. Eyewitnesses claim the speeding car was traveling from the flyover towards Shaheen Bagh with three to four occupants. After colliding with the auto-rickshaw, the car allegedly fled the scene at high speed, leaving the occupants to escape the area.

Police allege that the speeding car was not drunk at the time of the accident. Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage from the area and other evidence to determine the precise sequence of events and identify the vehicle's owner and passengers. The car's damaged bonnet and windshield were captured in footage by a passerby, as were the severely damaged auto-rickshaw and Kalam, who was seen lying injured on the road.
